Our first client who made some exciting steps in 2021 is ZeroStone Investigations 🐕
When Mike, a former criminal investigator for the New Zealand Police, and Matt, a former police dog handler joined forces, something for criminals to be truly afraid of ensued. Offering a range of services, including private investigation, legal defense counsel, workplace drug testing and searches, ZeroStone have expanded their offering even more in 2021.
Matt has introduced his dog training expertise as a professional service for any and all dogs in the greater Marlborough region. What started off as a one-off favour for a friend, has evolved into a well oiled machine with a variety of options for any kind of dog, no matter the age or issue. Now, with 10 dogs graduated from training with Matt, the demand for private dog training is more than ever.
Congratulations to Matt and Mike on this exciting development of ZeroStone Investigations' service offering, we look forward to seeing your business continue to flourish!

Up second in our 12 Clients of Christmas that prospered in 2021 is Saint Clair Family Estate
Despite facing weather challenges, on top of staff resource shortages due to the border being shut, Saint Clair have been well rewarded for their perseverance to make good wine this year!
After being awarded Winestate Magazine's Winery of the Year in 2020, Saint Clair had big shoes to fill, but boy did they fill them! An impressive list of accolades were added to the wrap sheet, including two wines awarded at the New World Wine Awards, an impressive 6 wines were medaled at the Wine Marlborough Ltd Marlborough Wine Show, a Pinot Noir was labelled as the Best Wine from New Zealand at the Hong Kong Wine Awards, and their renowned Wairau Reserve Sauvignon Blanc won a number of awards.
A Champion of the Aotearoa Regional Wine Competition, the 2021 Wairau Reserve Sauvignon Blanc was also awarded the highest accolades at the 2021 Marlborough Wine Show; the Champion Sauvignon Blanc, and the overall Wine of the Show award.

Long-time WK client Mitre 10 MEGA Marlborough celebrated some fantastic news in 2021 with owners Graeme and Shirley Hawtin inducted into the national Mitre 10 Hall of Fame!
The induction serves as a tribute to the many years of service that the pair have dedicated to the Mitre 10 New Zealand Group, with Graeme and Shirley are recognised in the community as “top of the South legends”. From their grassroots as Hopwood Wemyss & Bendall, the pair joined the Mitre 10 cooperative as the sixth ever member in 1975, and have been with them ever since.
Although both largely retired from the business, their son David now fronts the business and continues the Hawtin legacy in the local community.
2021 was an interesting year for Mitre 10 Marlborough, navigating their way through a second lockdown and ongoing global supply chain disruption. The recognition of Graeme and Shirley’s commitment to hard work and maintaining relationships with their team members was certainly well-deserved.
Congratulations to Graeme, Shirley, and the entire Mitre 10 Marlborough team for coming through 2021 with such a fantastic accomplishment!

Edge Physio Marlborough have had their work cut out for them over the last year, as they adapt to the new normal that was 2021 💪
Director Richie Marsden notes that despite the current restrictions, the Marlborough community is more active than ever which is fantastic, but unfortunately this has led to some mishaps. This is where the Edge team kicks into action to support and rehabilitate, which is where they thrive. They’ve found it incredibly rewarding to assess and assist their patients to achieve their goals and get back to doing what they love.
Additionally, local legend John Chamberlain stepped into retirement this year, and whilst he was a huge loss to Edge and the Marlborough community, he is taking some well earned time with his family and enjoying the incredible outdoors we have on our doorstep. Some highlights of this year for the Edge team were seeing some of their Physiotherapists graduate with postgraduate qualifications as well as competing in both local and national multisport events.
The icing on the cake of 2021 for Richie and his team was providing physiotherapy services and support to a range of local and national sports teams including NZ Schools and NZ Under 20 Rugby teams, as well as the @tasmanmako Development and Mako NPC teams.
Well done to Richie and the @edge.physio team for being so resilient and making the most of a tough 2021!

Rural Workshop Architecture, better-known as RWA has been burning rubber in 2021, winning two prestigious awards for their work in only their second year of operation. Don’t let that mislead you though, directors Jarrod and Chris both have over two decades of experience in Architecture, joining forces after many years working separately alongside each other in a shared office.
WK Director Hamish Morrow was instrumental in the merger of the two companies to become RWA, providing the guidance and structure they needed to make the move. Despite launching the business just before the 2020 lockdown, RWA has hit the ground running.
Chris notes that, like many small businesses, RWA faced their fair share of trepidation moving into the industry post-lockdown, but they were well-rewarded for the risk and they discovered that things went from strength to strength for them.
RWA projects include both residential new builds and renovations, as well as commercial work - which is where they found great success in 2021. A repurposed commercial building in the middle of Blenheim's CBD (now CPR Coffee) won them a Nelson Marlborough NZIA (New Zealand Institute of Architects) Regional Award for its remarkable transformation to a raw and honest aesthetic, on a limited budget.
The second award, a Canterbury NZIA (New Zealand Institute of Architects) Regional Award was for their Tai Tapu House in the hills of Christchurch. Its refined palette of materials paired with the thoughtful layout of the plan won them this accolade.
Congratulations to Jarrod and Chris on these outstanding achievements in 2021, it has been a pleasure for WK to see RWA flourish!

Our sixth client is @thinkwatermarlborough, who’ve had an action packed 2021; keeping the water needs of the greater Marlborough attended to so well they won Think Water’s Franchise of the Year 2021!
The @think_water group comprises 32 independently owned franchises across New Zealand and Australia. They cover all aspects of water management, from commercial irrigation system design and installation, to a wide range of products for pools and spas and every shaped and sized fitting you could imagine.
The team at Think Water Marlborough is made up from a variety of backgrounds in all aspects of the water services industry. Owner and director Greg Somerville is a familiar face, having played in both the All Blacks and Crusaders jerseys. A degree in Agriculture in Farm Management also under his belt means he’s an expert at providing comprehensive designs and solutions to the various companies and individuals in the region in need of any kind of water management service.
The team took out the 2021 New Zealand Franchise of the Year award at the Think Water Annual Conference in Queenstown in August this year. This accolade is recognition of the franchise’s continuing development and excellence in customer service to the Marlborough community.
2021 has been a great year for Think Water Marlborough and we’re sure 2022 is going to be just as prosperous - wishing you all the best for the upcoming warmer months team!

Relatively new to the hop growing industry, @KotareHops has made a splash in 2021, taking out the esteemed Hop Grower of the Year title!
Located Southwest of Nelson in the small town of Tapawera, the property for Kotare Hops started out its life intended to be a sheep and beef farm when Noel Moleta and his wife purchased it in 2015. Moving away from the historic family farm on D’Urville Island that his Italian immigrant grandfather had established more than 125 years ago, Noel never saw growing hops in his future.
Taking a leap of faith into the unknown, Noel recalls seeing “a real estate advertisement for a hop farm up in the Sunshine Valley with an asking price of $10 million. I was amazed. I realised hops were very much in demand again” and hasn’t looked back since.
Kotare Hops boasts one of the most state-of-the-art hop sheds in the Nelson region, and gardens cover 28 hectares on the 144-hectare farm, with around 700 sheep brought in to keep the bines nicely trimmed
As part of the 27 growers in the @nzhopsltd cooperative, Kotare have firmly established themselves as a grower to keep an eye on this year. They were awarded the The Grower of the Year 2021 award, which recognises overall hop quality across a number of categories. 2021 also included a 'greater good' category where growers earned 'points' via community support and sustainability projects.
Congratulations to Kotare Hops for this wonderful accomplishment to put the cherry on top of a great 2021!

When GM announced that it would be retiring the Holden brand from the New Zealand market in early 2020, @motorworldblenheim was faced with indeed an impending lockdown, but also an impending massive pivot to make 2021 bigger and better than ever.
Although sad to see the iconic Holden brand go, the team at Motorworld had a bright future to look forward to. Adding to their name of being New Zealand’s longest-serving Suzuki motor dealer of 44 years, they also added the Kia, Volkswagen and Isuzu Ute franchises to their lot.
A revamped showroom gave them a great start to 2021, the perfect home for the three new franchises with new Kia, Volkswagen, Isuzu and Suzuki vehicles, and a wide range of quality used vehicles, servicing, WOF, genuine parts and accessories.
2021 has also seen Motorworld continue to be a cornerstone of the Marlborough community with their ongoing support of the Life Education Trust Marlborough, making some happy kids - as well as some happy adults driving away in new vehicles!
Motorworld has shown fantastic resilience and growth in 2021 in the face of losing a major iconic brand less than a year ago, and it has been WK’s pleasure to watch the business flourish - best of luck with your continued success in 2022!

Christchurch-based luxury tour company @theroadtrip_nz were inherently on the back foot of 2021 given the exact nature of their business model. Offering luxury tours with individual itineraries, private vehicles, and drivers to the tourists of New Zealand since 2013, they had their work cut out for them once the borders shut due to COVID-19.
From June to September of 2020 they spent countless hours attempting to identify a gap in the market that they could fit in to in order to keep their business afloat. With the majority of their customer base being from the US, Singapore and Southeastern Asian countries, with only Kiwis to market to, they had to pivot their business model entirely to attract customers, a forced reset of their entire way of thinking and operating.
Enter a new kind of tour; high value opportunities and mini-breaks, exactly what Kiwis were looking for! After some hard yakka promotion on social media, The Road Trip found they’d hit the nail on the head for the domestic market, and they haven’t looked back since.
Building their strong relationships with providers across the South Island has been key to their success in the domestic market, Chris says. Negotiating lower prices with providers to meet the spending point of Kiwis but ensuring a profitable margin has meant that The Road Trip has been able to retransform their business model and are almost back to their pre-pandemic turnover - truly remarkable!
In 2021 alone they have been awarded a Trip Advisor Excellence, which is given to the 10% of companies within each sector. They also had their Qualmark Gold renewed which is the highest level of approval from Tourism NZ, based on the health and safety, payments, technology and customer reviews.
Chris and The Road Trip team are looking forward to the opening of the border, with most of their international bookings postponed until at least 2022, but he’s confident that they will continue to offer this new kind of travel to Kiwis at home as well once this returns.
Well done to Chris and the team for being awarded such honourable accolades as a testament to your resilience and adaptability!

Our tenth client who had a remarkable 2021 is @mtfyffedistillery. It was especially remarkable due to the fact they only launched midway through this year.
Passionate about (drinking and making) gin and the botanicals of her land, a former nurse and midwife Justine Schroder spent the last two years developing the perfect gin, before officially launching Mt Fyffe Distillery in July this year.
Launching two distinct products, the Woolshed and Shearwater gins, it was important to Justine to showcase how a small area can produce such different story-inspired gins.
A jam-packed second half of 2021 was on the cards for the boutique startup, but they hit the nail on the head of producing fantastic gin, being awarded the Emerging Product award at 2021's @nzspiritsawards
A solo piece by @nzstuff helped propel them even further as they made a name for themselves across New Zealand. Also featured in the @NZHerald's article “Five new things to do in Kaikōura’, they’re certainly giving the region something to talk about!
If the gin-making process couldn’t get more personal for Justine, her tour of the country with the Gindulgence New Zealand Gin Festival meant she could hand pour her creations for punters, witnessing the reaction as they taste something truly incredible.
The icing on the cake of 2021 for Justine and the Mt Fyffe Distillery brand was undoubtedly being amongst big competition at the @australianginawards, where the Woolshed Gin was awarded a Silver, only months after launching.
WK is honoured to be a part of this remarkable journey with Justine and we look forward to seeing how the Mt Fyffe brand continues to evolve and succeed in the future!

@reeftondistillingco is our 11th Client of Christmas for 2021!
It’s been a challenging year for Reefton as they’ve had to navigate the perils of a marketplace impacted by COVID-19, which saw a marked drop in revenue from hospitality channels in the Auckland region, due to the lockdown, and the ongoing closure of the borders which has impacted duty free sales.
However, it hasn’t all been doom and gloom as online Direct to Consumer sales have flourished and the business continues to make significant inroads into establishing a presence in international markets to export their story to the world. New products released during the year included a Pink version of their flagship Little Biddy Gin and for the first time a Limited Christmas Edition as well as an advent calendar.
Additional to new products to add to their line, they also won a number of awards to add to their title, including a double Champion Trophy, the trophy for Best New Zealand Vodka, together with the trophy for Best Overall Vodka in Category for their Wild Rain Vodka at the NZ Spirits Awards On the international stage they also won a platinum medal and Consumers’ Choice Award at the 2021 SIP Awards
We are inspired by Reefton’s tenacity to overcome to challenges faced and their desire to share their story. There is a lot to look forward to in 2022 with the completion of the distillery fitout and the launch of the highly anticipated Moonlight Creek Whiskey so watch this space!

With the Pelorus Sound as his stomping ground since a younger star, Marine Farm Management Owner and director Johnathan Large well and truly has aquaculture in his blood. The company has a 12 metre and 7 metre vessels which he uses to harvest mussels for nutraceuticals and wild seaweed for natural fertilisers.
To his name, he has over 40 years of experience in the mussel business, and in 2009 he and his wife Narelle purchased his family's marine farm in Nydia Bay. The site has been in his family since the early 1980s, a legacy which Johnathan is proud to continue and pioneer into new territory. Important to Jonathan is making the most of what comes out of the sea; which is where the idea for a mussel shell compost to facilitate the growth of his vines came from.
In June of 2021, Jonathan and Marine Farm Management had the pleasure of being featured on the iconic TV programme @hyundaicountrycalendar. The episode gave some great insight into the business, how they operate and the benefits of the products they help produce. It also showed what Jonathan gets up to on land; supporting his family’s rose nursery, and managing his four-hectare vineyard near Blenheim.
WK has been so pleased to see Johnathan and Marine Farm Management have the spotlight shone on them. It’s been awesome to see the pioneering work he is doing for so many industries in our Marlborough region; we can’t wait to see what’s next!
